Pete Sparacino was sharp in his first start, working seven innings and striking out five while allowing two runs for the win.

Ryan Javech earned the start at third and responded with a 4-for-4 day at the plate and seven assists on defense.

Tito Garza picked up the save with two innings of scoreless work.

The North Park Vikings started the season 4-0 for the first time since 1982 with a 6-2 win over Carroll University on Sunday at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Florida. The Vikings and Pioneers were locked in a scoreless duel until North Park struck for three runs in the bottom of the fourth.  Ryan Javech and Andy Athans opened the inning with consecutive singles and moved up on a balk.  Zach Deutscher drove in the first run with a groundout, and Mike Sommerfield singled to put the Vikings up 2-0.  Sommerfield promptly stole second, moved to third on another balk, and came in on a grounder by Nick Marino.  North Park added single runs in the fifth (Brian Staatz singled home Mike Domenick), the sixth (Deutscher doubled and later scored on a wild pitch), and the eighth (Marino tripled and scored on a single by Trevor Popp). Carroll mounted a two-run rally in the sixth on a hit, three walks, and a sacrifice fly, but Sparacino (1-0) induced a fly ball to end the threat.  Tito Garza worked the final two innings to pick up a save.  He allowed two hits but struck out three and picked a runner off in his first mound appearance. The Viking offense was paced by Ryan Javech, who went 4-for-4 with a stolen base, a run scored, and seven assists at third base.  Mike Domenick and Andy Athans were the only other Viking batters with multiple hits (two apiece).  North Park also stole seven bases on the day to move their season total to 20. North Park squares off with Southern Vermont College on Monday as they continue their spring break trip.
