In another tight picthing duel, Webster scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth to come away with a 2-0 win and a doubleheader sweep of the Vikings. The Gorloks' Anthony Genna opened the sixth with a double, and following a strikeout, an error put two runners on. Viking starter Pete Sparacino nearly eluded the threat by inducing a popup, but gave up a two-run double to Joe Biagini. Webster's hurler, Eric Savage, would make those two runs stand up as he scattered four hits and walked two while striking out nine Vikings. Sparacino (1-1) also pitched well, giving up only six hits over eight innings while striking out eight. North Park had a few opportunities to dent the scoreboard but could not find the clutch hits. Nick Marino and Trevor Popp led off the first by reaching on consecutive errors but could not come around. The Vikings left the bases loaded in the fourth after Andy Athans doubled, Zach Berryman drew a walk, and Angel Carrasco was hit by a pitch, but once again they failed to capitalize. The Vikings (7-4) return to Chicagoland with a game at Benedictine on Wednesday afternoon. They host UW-Superior for a Saturday doubleheader before travelling to Milwaukee for a Monday afternoon contest against Wisconsin Lutheran. |
