North Park dropped the rubber game of their first CCIW series to North Central, 11-1, on Saturday in Naperville. The Viking offense never got untracked against Cardinal pitcher Nate Arenson (4-0), who scattered seven hits over seven innings. The lone tally for North Park was the result of an error in the fifth, which allowed Zach Berryman to reach base. He later scored on a double by Mike Domenick. The Cardinals took advantage of some shaky Viking defense to put across four unearned runs. They scored four times in the second on a pair of errors, a walk, and a three-run homer by Andrew Wulbecker. Viking starter Jake Hollinsaid (4-1) allowed two more -- one unearned -- in the third on a pair of hits, an error, and a balk and another unearned run in the fifth on two hits and a passed ball. The Cardinals struck for four runs in the bottom of the seventh on six consecutive hits off Hollinsaid and relievers Travis Boyer and Nick Soldano for a game-ending ten-run margin. North Park (12-7, 1-2) continues CCIW action with a doubleheader at Elmhurst on Tuesday afternoon. |
